WEEKLY UPDATE

RE Weekly Update:  May 1st to May 5th, 2017

	This Week	Next Week
Phonics/ writing	This week, we learned the new camera words from unit 4. (there, were, have, some, come, little)	Next week, we will learn be introduced to the sound ‘sh’. We will review words and sounds and learned new words. And we will continue our guided reading sessions.
Math	This week, we reviewed our number bonds and were introduced to the concept of doubling numbers.	Next week, we will review addition.
PSD	This week, we learned how we can all look after our Mother Earth.	Next week, we will learn about water conservation.
Science	This week, we celebrated Earth Day and learned about how we can all be superheroes and take good care of our planet. We were introduced to the topic of recycling and waste reduction. (reduce, reuse, recycle)	Next week, we will learn about the water cycle and the 4 seasons.
Art	This week, we made a Mandala Art piece using recycled bottles caps to create our Art piece for the EY Art Auction coming up in June.	Next week, we will be painting the four seasons and learned about how rainbow forms and we will make rainbows in groups.
Physical	This week, we played with a sensory tray mixing corn starch and water. We also rescued animals from ice with our superhero powers!	Next week, we will make an experiment to help us understand how water turns into clouds.
Notices and Events	Books returned: please bring the book borrowed from the EY library before Tuesday and put the returned book in RE’s returned book basket’. Thank you. Monday 1st at 8:15am in the EY Library:  Mr.Renie will be having a presentation for Reception parents. He will talk about how the children will transition when they move to Primary and what we can do to help now. It will be very useful and I urge you to all attend. The sign up sheet will be outside the EY building below the EY Display board.  Scholastic: please remember to send out your order and money before May 4th. RE rescuing animals caught in ice!

Today we rescued animals caught up in ice. By using tooth brushes, paint brushes and sponges we all worked together to rescue these poor animals freezing in the ice!!!  RE superheroes to the rescue!!!!

Cheerios color mixing as a sensory and color mixing activity:

To celebrate Earth Day we learned about human waste and how we can all help take care of our beautiful planet Earth.
We learned about recycling and played a little recycling activity sorting out plastic, paper and food waste:

Learning about doubling using our number bonds. learning how to do mental math without counting: 1 and 1 is 2, 2 and 2 is 4, 3 and 3 is 6 etc...

In this activity this group was using paint and numicon to write down the doubling numbers we can get when doubling all the numbers from 1 all the way up to 20.

Lita was playing a matching game by finding out the numbers you get when you double the same numbers.
