Vegetables...which ones do you like?

Last week we started a new topic. 'Oliver's vegetables.' The kids have been learning about different fruits and vegetables and trying some during snack time. I am proud to see the kids trying to eat more fruits and veggies that are offered. We have been looking at the colours, shapes and how the vegetables grow in the garden. Everyone has done a great job at helping to make some for our vegetable garden. Take a look at the activities we have been doing this week. It has been a fun sensory filled week.

Keep trying to encourage your children to try different fruits and vegetables. We have been talking about how they make us stronger and feel healthier.
We will be looking forward to our supermarket shopping on Friday 29th to buy some fruit for our fruit salad.

Story sequencing, 'The very hungry caterpillar!'

Last week we continued with our, 'The very hungry caterpillar' story. Everyone was very excited to see the caterpillar make its cocoon and now we are just waiting until it becomes a butterfly. We had a lot of fun thinking of new and creative ways to make caterpillars and butterflies through art.

We have also been learning about story sequencing and how to count in groups of up to ten at a time. Take a look at everyone making their caterpillar books. I hope you got a chance to read the story at home with your child. They have been really good listeners and most can retell the story independently by looking at the pictures.

Take a look at everyone working to help paint one giant butterfly! They took turns and chose the color and pattern they wanted to paint and had to paint the matching side!

The very hungry caterpillar

Last week we started our new topic, 'The very hungry caterpillar.' The children have really been enjoying this activity and all the activities and crafts that come along with it. Everyone has gotten really good at understanding the life cycle and what happens next. We have even learned a new song to help us remember. See if your child can remember the words and actions at home!

"There's a tiny caterpillar on a leaf....wiggle..wiggle.
There's a tiny caterpillar on a leaf..wiggle..wiggle.
There's a tiny caterpillar on a leaf....wiggle...wiggle.

Now he eats the leaf around him till he's full....munch munch
Now he eats the leaf around him till he's full....munch munch
Now he eats the leaf around him till he's full....munch munch

Now he's spinning a cocoon for his home...spin spin
Now he's spinning a cocoon for his home...spin spin
Now he's spinning a cocoon for his home...spin spin

Then he'll be a butterfly and fly away...fly fly
Then he'll be a butterfly and fly away...fly fly

Take a look at some of the caterpillar fun we have been having.

Welcome back! Term 2 has begun.

Welcome back everyone. I hope you all got some rest and relaxation over the holidays. I have been really happy to see the kids again and hear all about their holidays. Sounds like everyone has had a lot of fun and saw many different things from the mountains to the beaches.

As we start back up for Term 2 we have started making our phonics book. The kids started by making their own book cover by painting their hands to make a tree, we call it our alphabet tree. Take a look at the pics of the kids painting their trees.

Our letter sound for the week is 's' Here is our jolly phonics song that we are practicing in school. You can help your child by singing this at home.
