Shapes shapes everywhere!

This week we have been continuing with our story, 'Brown bear brown what do you see?' Today we talked about shapes and the different shapes that you see inside and outside. We looked around the playground to find objects that resembled shapes such as circles, squares, triangles and more. The children did a great job pointing out shapes and loved going on our shape hunt. I was very happy to see everyone joining in and trying very hard to remember the names of different shapes. We also got the chance to paint with a variety of shape blocks and talk about which ones we liked and which ones were big and small. Take a look at how much fun with had with shapes!

Brown bear what do you see? Polar bear what do you hear?

This week the children have started a new theme. We are focusing on our sense of sight and sense of hearing. The children have been joining in with some fun activities to help encourage them to look and listen. We read along to the story, "Brown bear brown bear what do you see?" We then took a look at the different animals in the story and what colour they were. The children go to choose their which animal they wanted to paint and then tried out different methods of painting for that animal. Take a look at our wonderful artwork!

We painted the brown bear with ground coffee beans!
 The yellow ducks with sponges!
We painted the red bird with feathers!
 The blue horse with string!

The black sheep with cotton wool!
We painted the purple cat with forks!
We painted the goldfish with sequins and glitter!

The green frog with speckled spots of green and yellow!

We also went on a listening walk around the school and listened to all the different sounds. We heard kids playing basketball, an airplane, birds, trees blowing in the wind. We even got to choose our own sticks and leaves and made noise by scrapping them on the ground to see whose was louder. Take a look at the kids really listening carefully to the sounds around them.

The kids have been working really hard on their listening skills and at home you can encourage them to listen to different sounds around the house and guess what sound it is that they hear. Here is a link to the 2 books we are focusing on in class. Encourage your child to listen and read along with the story!
